The universe is composed of subjects to be communed with, not objects to be exploited. Everything has its own voice. Thunder and lightening and stars and planets, flowers, birds, animals, trees, all these have voices, and they constitute a community of existence that is profoundly related.
Thomas berry (1914)
If I were given a chance to open a science club in your school, I would wish to open a Nature club. for the following reasons:
The Feels Good Reason
It simply feels good to be outside snooping around, moving here and there keeping your eyes and cars open, looking for new things while trying to understand old things, as the sun shines, the wind blows, birds sing, butterflies flit, mushrooms emerge, bugs scamper
The Brain Food Reason
Any serious scientist or serious student can tell you that once you begin studying nature its relay trace that the more you know the more you realize how little you know,. Also, the more you know about nature, the more exciting it gets to Leann more. Any one who really gets into nature will never be bored.
The it’s beautiful reason
It’s the blast to see the different ways sunlight can enter through window, also the ways sunlight can filter through a bright leaf in fall, to hear the music of insects deep in a summers night, to discover the intricate patterns of venation on the wings of tiny insects, to thrust the mind deep into the throat of a weed flower.
The get a philosophy reason
Once you realize that nature is so complex, huge and beautiful; you can’t avoid wondering what it all means why are we humans placed in the midst of all these, and what are we supposed to do about it? As the ancient Chinese showed us, nature was suggesting answers to those questions long before the worlds formal religions come into being.
The understanding The Creators’ Plan reason
Some people believe that the creators plan for the universe concluding the plan for us humans can best be determined by studying that tiny corner of nature present on our little planet, the earth. Are not the lessons of recycling, of preserving clean air and water of sharing the ecosystem with other living things. Etc. at least as important as teaching of regular religions?
The doing what’s right reason
If you believe that nature teachers us important lessons and if you are concerned about the plight of life on earth, them you world do well to study nature closely. For, its clear that if present trends continue (the spoiling of clean water, clean air and open space, the poisoning of the ecosystem, the extinction of species) disaster for us all with result. What is to be done to turn things around? The earth’s young people must come up with that answer, and surely there no better place to look for answers than from the study of nature.
For achieving the above objective I will try to involve my colleagues in the club to do these simple activities.
Find out where your houses water comes form. Does your town have its own well, or take water from a reservoir or river, does the water seem clean to you, and free of chemical pollutants? if not, what are your going to do about it?
Get involved with local efforts to save the environment and meet others who enjoy learning about nature. Check out who are the learners in your city.
Figure out where your trash goes. The garbage truck picks it up, and them is anything recycled? Is it dumped at sea or burned, causing air pollution or put into a landfill, using valuable land? Are your happy with what happen to it? is there anything you can do to improve the matter?
These are some of the many activities which can carried out in Back yard Science club, because I believe that nature could be used as an additional teacher for understanding whatever the teacher teaches about science in the classroom. if we wish to have a better life for tomorrow we have somebody to save mother earth today and that’s the back yard club. the following saying ends it all:
“Treat the Earth well. It was not given to you By your parents. It was lent to you by your children.
